Instead of serving up an epic tale of post-mortem exploits, Rauser, a prolific blogger and self-described “progressive evangelical,” offers thoughtful theological and philosophical responses to twenty questions about life after death — or more accurately about (to quote N.T. Wright) life after life after death.

    Does universalism subvert free will?

    Salvation?

    A common objection to universalism (the view that all people will eventually be reconciled to God) is that it violates our free will — that in order for God to save everyone, he would have to force some to love him. Those who argue from that point of view disavow universalism in part because they believe that some people will freely choose to reject — and will always choose to reject — God’s saving love and grace.

    Newsweek’s October 8 cover story is by Dr. Eben Alexander, a noted neurosurgeon who had a near-death experience that he believes offers conclusive proof of the afterlife. (Not-so-coincidentally, his book Proof of Heaven: A Neurosurgeon’s Journey Into The Afterlife comes out October 23).
